Quick SEO Tip : Web Site Navigation & Images – 23. February, 2011

One of the ultimate goals of SEO is to get Google to crawl each and every page of your web site, so it is really critical that we make that very easy for Google to do.   One of the easiest ways is to make your web site’s navigation SEO friendly.

The problem. A lot of web designers will use graphic images in the navigation of the web site and simply add a URL when clicked to get to that respective page.  The problem with this technique is that Google does not follow images, so it can’t really get to the page in question in order to crawl and index it (at least not easily.).

Is Your SEO A Good Witch Or A Bad Witch? – 14. February, 2011

Business owners, you HAVE to read this article from the NYTimes published yesterday: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/13/business/13search.html .

The bottom line, a VERY well known company was employing a black hat, (bad witch) SEO company that was using trickery in order to get this company at the top of all organic search engine rankings.  Using a sketchy or black hat SEO company can result in Google burning your company at the stake.

Search Engine Love. – 12. February, 2011

With Valentines Day quickly approaching, it’s time for us all to share some love with the ones we love.  You may not love Google, Bing, or Yahoo, but it’s time for your business to share some love with Google.   Here a few quick tips to help Google love your corporate web site:

– Feed The Search Engines: Just like you’d serve your honey up a tempting medium rare filet and lobster tale, it’s time to feed the search engine some well written content, corporate news, organized white papers, blogs, etc.  The more you feed them, the more they love you and come back.

– Simplify their life. Create an XML sitemap on your web site so that search engines can easily crawl and get right to the heart of your web site.  It’s fast and easy, simply google : free xml sitemap, run it, and share the love.

– Clean up your act.
Is your web site a mess? Do you have a links all over the place? Nothing shares the love more than tidying up your space. Search engines don’t have time to digest noise and busyness.  Clean up your web site and share the love.

SEO IS The Most Important Thing. – 26. January, 2011

I was meeting with our CFO this morning, we were having a great discussion about On Target’s services and products and he made this statement: SEO Is The Most Important Thing you sell…. A very simple statement, but it smacked in the face. We have built so many web sites in town, we have helped so many people climb in the rankings, when you put those two together, you get a powerful amazing marketing force. Take one of the software companies we work with: we rebuilt their web site from a flash clunker into an SEO friendly web site, the result, they are now playing with the big boys in Google, they are in the top three organic results: (Not number one yet, but we’re working on it.) When this company gets leads and converts them, they are worth over $40,000. Is SEO important to them? Yes, it’s critical to growing their bottom line.

Sure, your web design and image is important, I’m not here to understate that, BUT, without SEO, without getting that web site indexed well under key terms that your prospects are searching for, you might as well just frame that web site as a pretty picture and hang it on your office wall.  If your web site wasn’t created with SEO in mind, if your web designer did not even consider copy, optimization, getting your site found, it’s time to talk with my company.  Anyone can build your company a web site, but not every company knows SEO and Internet Marketing inside and out.

The SEO Straight & Narrow. – 18. January, 2011

“Character is doing the right thing when nobody’s looking.  There are too many people who think that the only thing that’s right is to get by, and the only thing that’s wrong is to get caught. ” ~J.C. Watts

Getting caught spamming Google, Bing or Yahoo with unethical SEO practices can be catastrophic to companies who are ranked well in the search engines.  Trusting your Search engine optimization to a company who may not play by the rules can be a very dangerous game. It’s critical for your business to choose an SEO company with character and one with a solid understanding of the term ethics….

Anchoring : A Quick SEO Tip. – 6. January, 2011

Anchor Your URL With KeywordsGoogle loves links and loves to follow links. Links give Google a great snapshot of what your web site is all about, so it is crucial to help Google along a bit and anchor the URL’s that you are using with rich keywords that describe the content on your web site.

Here’s an example how NOT to link: (would be just fine if I thought people were always search for ontargetwebsolutions.com in the search engines….)

Are Your SEO Keywords On Target? – 2. January, 2011

I’ve worked with so many companies who hand me a list of keywords that they would like us to incorporate into a search engine marketing campaign.  Upon reviewing the keywords, you would be amazed just how far off some companies are when it comes to knowing what their market is typing into a Google search. I’ve seen doctors give me the full Latin name for the procedures they perform, I’ve seen engineers give me a list of a list of fully technical specifications as keywords, I’ve seen a construction equipment company hand me the full parts list for a 1974 Honda pressure washer. These keywords clearly mean a lot to the business owner, but in reality, may mean nothing to the actual prospect who is seeking to purchase that nose job, laser etcher or pressure cleaner.

It is so very important to KNOW what your prospects are typing in to find you in a search engine query. One of the best ways to do this is to use one of the following tools prior to composing that new blog, white paper, or content page. These keyword tools help you to know and isolate particular keywords to target prior to embarking on an Organic SEO or pay per click campaign:

Google Blockers. – 31. December, 2010

Is your web site actually blocking Google from doing anything with it? Ever wonder why your web site is no where to be found when you search for it?

I visited a printing web site in town this week via a direct link that a friend had forwarded me.  This is a great printer in Orlando, they do amazing work, but their web site makes Google and other search engines run the other way seeking a better web site to digest and include in their search results, here’s why:
