I had a great conversation with a prospect today about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and his web site. One of the key questions he asked was this: “Can’t you just go in there once and make revisions and the site will be found?” This hit it and quit mentality is quite common and I try to explain it to prospects and clients like this:
When you do a Google search, you expect to see relevant timely results on any given search. Google knows this, so Google puts more weight on web sites that are current and relevant. So, if your web site is sixteen years old and you’ve never even taken it out of frames, much less updated the copyright date in the footer, odds are, Google is going to wash it’s hands of your web site or it will be found on page 517.
Keeping your web site fresh can be as easy as adding a blog article once or twice a week. As long as you are feeding your HUMAN web site visitors, the search engines (Google in particular) will pay attention and be more eager to index your site favorably.
