Anyone who has been in involved in the SEO (search engine optimization) world for a few years knows how much it has changed. It’s no surprise that each of the search engines needs to evolve to keep search engine spammers at bay. One of the many problems that we face as Internet marketers is that MANY folks haven’t let go of the ghost of search engines past.
I spoke to a kind gentleman last week who was telling us how to do SEO on his web site. He was a prospect and quite possibly could become a client soon, but the point is, all of the ‘tricks’ he was pointing out that he wanted us to do to his web site are VERY outdated. Some folks are still under the auspices that you have to submit your web site daily to the search engines or that you need to use ALT tags on EVERY image to tell the search engines all about your products. The fact of the matter is this, search engine marketing has changed drastically and will continue to be a moving target as search engines evolve to help people find stuff faster.
What works now? (As of Sunday, July 26, 2009?) Content. Rich and unique content. Be a contributor, engage people in conversations, compose new and unique articles for PEOPLE. Search engines take notice of quality and rich content designed to help PEOPLE. Old School SEO marketers are still creating thousands of pages of nonsense designed ONLY for search engines. The bottom line is that the search engines will continue to evolve to provide searchers with the most relevant up to date results.
