Blogs are a great tool to keep your customers / prospects in touch with what your company is up to.  Blogs are also a great asset to your ongoing search engine optimization efforts.  Google loves blogs, blogs are a great source of ‘food’ to the search engine so as you are composing your blog posts, it’s important to keep SEO in mind.  From my personal blogging & SEO experience, I’ve noticed that Google pays a good deal of attention to the blog post title and the URL of the actual blog post, so here are two critical SEO pointers to consider while utilizing a wordpress blog:

1.) Permalink Structure: The permalink of your blog is the actual name of the URL that is generated once you hit publish on your wordpress blog.  The default wordpress permalink structure is ugly to say the least, so it’s a good idea to change your permalink structure on your blog to a more seo friendly structure, i.e, yourdomain.com/blog/seo-help rather then yourdomain.com/blog/?p=S. IMPORTANT: Changing this can be volatile, consult your web master prior to switching your permalink structure.

2.) All In One SEO Pack: This is a great tool that let’s you customize the title tags on each blog post that you compose, giving you control over what title Google sees on your individual blog posts.  This is rather easily installed as a WordPress plugin: you can find more information on the plugin and how to install here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/ Once you have installed the SEO pack, you’ll need to change some settings, but it’s very straight forward.
