What’s Your Message? SEO & Relevant Content – 14. June, 2009

I review web sites all day and I have to say, short of folks leaving their phone number off of their web page so that people can actually call them, I see mixed signals.  I see content that’s all over the place with no clear directive or mission.

When it comes down to organic search engine optimization, your web site needs to have a focus and a clear directive.  If you are telling Google that your web site is all about widgets and you are constantly blogging about the weather in Sri Lanka, you are sending mixed signals.  Essentially, the more scattered that your web site becomes in terms of content, the more diluted your message gets. The more diluted your message gets, the less relevant you become for your once intended audience.

100% Bounce Rate In Google Analytics? – 8. May, 2009

We have a client who creates an ample amount of fresh content for their web site, in fact, they churn out great stuff on a daily basis.  They recently got concerned when they saw their bounce rate in their Google Analytics and asked us to take a look:

We saw many unique phrases (like, an apple a day keeps the doctor away) being typed into Google and then bouncing instantly off of the web site:  This particular web site is all about senior health care but each of the articles that they are publishing are not SPELLING those keywords out.  The bottom line, their content needs to incorporate Keyword rich titles and they need to remember to incorporate more industry specific keywords in their articles. This will help attract TARGETED traffic that is more prone to stick around on the site and take the desired call to action.

Feeding Google. – 9. August, 2008

My wife and I were blessed enough to have a newborn baby girl recently who is healthy and HUNGRY.  I remember our first daughter and her eating habits and seriously can’t remember her needing to eat CONSTANTLY. Our newest addition will attack your finger just to get something in her mouth right now.

Google is a lot like my newborn.  It is hungry and needs food constantly AND it has a VERY short attention span. Google sends the great Googlebot to your web site to find stuff.  Relevant stuff, new stuff, unique stuff.  If Google doesn’t find it, or CAN’T find it, it’s gone. If Google comes back and keeps NOT finding new and relevant stuff, it will stop coming back, and eventually, your search engine rankings can start taking a pounding.

The Web Experience : Keep Em’ Coming Back – 3. January, 2008

I spent some talking to one of our newest employees today regarding internet marketing and what truly makes for a great internet marketing campaign.  He came to the realization that it’s not all about keywords, meta tags, copy optimization, seo, etc.  He said to me “So, if users have a great web experience on the site, they will come back and / or tell their friends…..” The words web experience rang out in my head, that is truly what it is all about.

When people get to your web site, are they engaged? Do they feel compelled to follow the path you have methodically laid out for them? Or are they just hap hazardly bouncing around?  That’s the key: lead them, guide them and take them to the trigger.  Do you educate your web site visitors, and further…. do you educate them with UNIQUE content?  A great example: let’s say you owned a motorcycle related web site, you display your bikes, accessories, etc.  You have pretty fair prices and a great shipping policy….what’s different? You decide to create fresh content about proper motorcycle maintenance, or how to change a tire, or what tire to choose for which application.  You provide fresh and relevant content on your site.  That’s a web experience. People are eager to learn, you just need to give them the nourishment and they will do the rest. Videos, articles, blogs, that’s the NEW web, that’s the web experience.
