Your 2010 Internet Marketing Plan : Get Social, Get Found, Get Friendly. – December 22nd, 2009

So, if you are like most business owners, you rode quite a wave in 2009, I think we can all safely say we are glad to leave it behind. So, 2009, don’t let the door hit you in the butt on the way out.

So, with the ‘death’ of 2009, we see the birth of 2010.  What are you going to do differently in 2010? How will your web site reach out and engage your audience? How will your SEO plans impact your bottom line? Are you going to finally get that blog started? How about your Twitter and Facebook strategy? What will all of this look like and most importantly, how will you measure it’s success?

As you begin your 2010 marketing planning, consider this quote from Dale Carnegie:

You Can Close More Business in two months by becoming Interested in OTHER PEOPLE than you can in two years by trying to get people INTERESTED IN YOU.

How very true.  2010 is the year to start building relationships and as Dale states, you’ll be so much more successful if you take the time to learn about people, learn about their needs, learn about their wants, dislikes and objectives.  Once you start understanding who that it is that you are marketing too, you will start thriving. Here are some Internet Marketing tips that you need to implement in 2010 to start becoming Interested in OTHER PEOPLE:

1.) Social Media.
Yes, I’m sick of hearing the term social media too….. BUT, you will find a tribe in Social media.  You’ll learn about prospects, you’ll see what makes them tick, you’ll start to see their likes, dislikes, etc.  Tune into your clients and find them on Twitter. Learn from their Tweets, learn from who they associate themselves with.  Before you dive in, I’d encourage you to JUST LISTEN.  Listen, read, observe, reflect and then start to engage with sincerity.

2.) SEO.
(Search Engine Optimization). Yes, this term is now overplayed and thrown around by so called Gurus all over the Internet.  True SEO is this: Knowing and being interested in who your target audience is.  SEO is about generating relevant and unique content that nourishes the search engines which in turn, nourishes your public, your prospects and your clients.  True SEO is about getting your generated content in front of the RIGHT people for the RIGHT reason and with a specific objective, goal in mind.  You need a strong SEO plan in order to get your web site in front of the right people at the right time. Again, the key here is to become interested in your prospects and how they search, what they search for and what they are specifically looking for.

3.) Web Design.
Kill the clutter in 2010.  Simplify your web site for your prospects. They are seeking information, give it to them, they are seeking tips, give them tips, they are looking to buy and get the heck out: honor that.  Build your web site in such a way that allows you to learn more about your prospects.  Gather their insight, harness their questions, address their needs and GIVE them what they seeking quickly and cleanly.

4.) Blogging.
Blogging is a two way street.  Many people don’t realize it, but blogging was the original social media because it was a true conversation.  In 2010, spend some time reading and contributing to other blogs.  Spend time at your competitors blog, spend time at industry related blogs, comment and engage the authors: build a foundation so that you can learn more about your prospects and clients.  Once you start blogging, don’t stop.  We all want immediate gratification and quick results, but you can’t jump in and out of this: it’s a commitment.

5.) Measure Results.
Here is the usual suspect in Internet Marketing disconnects: In 2010, you need to know where your traffic is coming from, what action are people taking if any, what are they reading? Where did they hang along the longest on your web site? There are a few easy programs that track web analytics and give you a clear concise picture of what is REALLY happening on your web site.  Measuring your analytics helps you get to know your web visitors and make logical decisions about marketing weaknesses, etc.  Pay close attention to your stats, ,this is your lifeline to your web site.

If you are truly seeking to grow your online presence in 2010, I suggest we all  listen to Dale Carnegie and start becoming interested in people rather than relying on them to gravitate to us.
