What is a registrar?
A registrar is the boss of your domain name. Domain registration companies include names like GoDaddy.com, NetworkSolutions.com, Register.com, etc. The registrar keeps all of the pertinent information related to your domain in one central location. There is a fee to use a registrar and to purchase a domain name, typically, this is an annual fee.

How do I register a domain name?
Different registrars handle registration differently, but it is typicall an online process or you can call in your request. You must first typically do a search on the registrar's web site to see if the domain you want is available, then you can proceed to purchase if it is available.

How long should I register for?
We recommend at least two years. You typically receive discounts for registering for more than a year, plus, it can be difficult to remember to renew. The registrar will typically remind you when it's time to renew, but you should set yourself a reminder at least a month in advance of expiration and renew the domain accordingly.

Should I also register different domain extensions?
We would recommend at the very least a .net domain if it is available, but we don't PERSONALLY think it's necessary to have .us., .tv., .cc etc. It's a matter of your personal choice. Please remember that .org domain names are reserved typically for non-profit organizations.

Ooops, I forgot to renew.
Ok, this can be an issue. If you browse to your domain name and it does not resolve to your web site, or if you see a notice from your registrar, you need to contact them as soon as possible to renew your domain name. Registrars do offer a bit of a grace period, so it should not be a big deal if you catch it quick enough. Other 'squatters' could be waiting to purchase the domain name and then attempt to sell it back to you at a premium price.
